Venice, Murano, Burano and lagoon workshops

Lost and found in Venice

Join us to discover the beauty of Venice and the art of long exposure!

We have prepared for you a very busy but also extremely rewarding schedule (from early morning until after sunset) during five days of shooting.

The beautiful City of Venice is a true photographers’ paradise – and an ideal location for long and very long exposure photography, both black and white and colour.

We will visit many of the iconic locations Venice has to offer and will also explore some of the less known areas that lend themselves to fine art minimalist photography.

Each day will begin before sunrise.

After the morning shoot we will return to the hotel for breakfast and a little downtime. We will then explore the city further until lunch.

After lunch there will be an hour break after which we shall resume the session.

Every day will finish after sunset to maximise the amount of shooting time available.

Workshop schedule

Evening before the workshop: Meeting with photographer and drinks – 7pm

Sunrise – shooting at the Molo, the part of Riva degli Schiavoni lying beside the Doge’s Palace. Here the swinging gondolas and the city lights are the perfect subjects for this shooting.

Morning – after breakfast, shooting in San Marco Square. If there’s the “acqua alta”, the tide flooding many areas of Venice in winter, you will focus your time on this amazing phenomenon.

Venice highlights (San Marco Cathedral, Bell Tower, Doge’s Palace and Biblioteca Marciana) but also small and intimate subjects, such as architectural elements, shop’s windows, building facades.

Sunset and twilight – from Riva degli Schiavoni you can take pictures of the sun setting behind the Giudecca Island and the Church of La Salute.

Night – if it’s not too cold and the weather is favourable, you could spend about one hour taking night pictures of Rialto Bridge or San Marco Square.

Sunrise – from Punta della Dogana you can photograph the sun rising behind the Giudecca Island and the Church of San Giorgio in the background.

Morning and afternoon – after breakfast, you walk to the Accademia Bridge, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the final part of Gran Canal and the Church of La Salute in the background. Here you can try long exposures for your pictures. You reach the worldwide known La Fenice Opera House and continue towards north to the Sestiere (district) Castello and then to the Sestiere of San Giovanni and Polo.

Sunrise – get the “vaporetto” (the ferryboat) about 1 hour before sunrise to reach the Lido Island, the narrow and long strip of land just east of the city centre; here you will shoot sunrise from the beach and then the Venice skyline, a different view of this charming town.

Morning – after breakfast at a cafeteria, you get the vaporetto back to San Marco Square. Here you will see Venice from a different point of view crossing through its canals by a gondola.

Afternoon – after lunch you reach the genuine district of Cannareggio to shoot beautiful reflections of canals of this amazing area of Venice and to discover the old Jewish district where Shakespeare set his drama “The Merchant of Venice”.

Sunset – back to San Marco area and Riva degli Schiavoni where you can shoot the majestic sunset with views ranging from San Giorgio Maggiore to the San Marco Bell Tower.

Pellestrina island – shooting disappearing fishing huts.

We shall arrive in Pellestrina just  before sunrise and stay there for the best part of the day and return to Venice in the late afternoon shooting a number of fishing huts, mooring posts, The Murazzi (Istrian stone dam walls which were built by the Serenissima Republic in the 1700s to protect the lagoon from the sea). and other interesting objects on the island.

Venice at night

We will visit both the most iconic spots and venture into less-known corners of this magnificent city and photograph its night-time beauty, including selected bridges, squares and galleries.
